TETON Sports Camp Cot Pad

Sometimes you need a bit more comfort from your camping cot, which brings us to the the TETON Sports Camp Cot Pad. They make this sleeping pad in three different sizes depending on which cot you are trying to use it with. In this review, I'm taking a look at the 82" x 38" x 2.5" Outfitter XXL version that fits any 85-by-40 inch cot (though it is specifically made for the TETON Sports Outfitter XXL Camping Cot). It's made out of 300D Canvas which has a nice medium weight to it. I would call it nearly heavy duty, but not quite there. It's a bit less than what you would find as material on most camping cots. As you can see from the dimensions, it's 2.5" thick and weighs 9 lbs, so I wouldn't expect many people to take this backpacking. Even for use as a sleeping pad, that is fairly heavy.

On the inside of the pad, it contains a polyurethane foam, which makes for a decent sleeping surface on it's own, and a great sleeping experience when used with a camping cot. It's not like you're at the Ritz or anything, but if you need a little bit more comfort or desire a softer sleeping surface during your camping trips, this is a great way to get what you need to help you sleep well. I know many of my military brothers and sisters that have purchased this pad specifically for deployments. Makes sleeping on that plywood a lot more bearable!

One thing probably worth mentioning is that even though the length of the pad is 82", the usable length is closer to 79". This is probably only an issue if you are really tall and you are using the pad just on the ground. I don't know anybody that's taller than 6'6", and even he fits on the cot + pad well. So just something to keep in mind if you're on the tall side of things. You'll also want to keep in mind that the foam will absorb moisture. So if using on the ground, it would be important to have a tarp or plastic sheet down. So with those two caveats in mind, this is a pretty awesome addition to your camping cot. For the price and additional comfort, I put this into my no-brainier category even for camping out a few nights. The older I get, the more important it is to me that I sleep in some amount of comfort so I can wake up the next day to tackle my hikes.
