Danner Men's Skyridge 4.5" Waterproof Lifestyle Boot

It shouldn't come as much of a surprise to readers of this site that I am an avid hiker, camper, and generally speaking outdoors person. This is my first pair of Danner boots, and this company has a great and very long history of producing very high quality footwear for nearly 100 years in the Pacific Northwest USA. This being my first pair of boots from the company, I wanted to purchase some that were on the lower end of the price spectrum.

I think first off, I'd like to point out that I have no idea why they call these a "lifestyle boot". I don't know what that means, except that maybe they're implying that these boots aren't ugly. I would agree with that. In terms of my other footwear, mostly from Vasque, these are certainly more attractive. That's not to say that they're not functional, as I've put hundreds of miles on this pair without any issues. I typically use these as my three season boot, so I'll head up to the mountains or hit the trails around my house in spring, summer, and fall. They don't fair quite as well in winter, and will get a little wet with snow on the ground. My last hiking trip, which unfortunately didn't include any camping (or a camping cot!!) involved quite a bit of snow on the trails. While I thought they did okay, I think you'll want a more waterproof solution if you find yourself in a lot of rain or snowy climates. The sole is waterproof, so hitting puddles is no issue. Overall, I've found these to be my most comfortable boot, and even on my 15-20 mile days, with a sock change and breaks, you'll be fine to put them on the next day for another hike. Great construction and lightweight for day hikes. Unless you are doing ultralight backpacking, I'd suggest a sturdier boot if you have to haul your gear for multiple days/miles. So this isn't an all in one solution, but if you like day hikes, even long ones, then I think you could do a lot worse!
