Ultra Bright Rechargeable Lantern

This isn't the first time I've written about lanterns, and I'm certainly it won't be the last. But as we move into fall here in the Northern Hemisphere, sunlight is at more and more of a premium. So what is the most important thing about a lantern? For me its how much light it throws off, and in this respect, this nondescript, generic LED lantern isn't a bad way to go. In fact I think it's great not just for hiking and camping, but also for emergencies and other such power outages. Since this thing is on the more affordable end of the spectrum, I didn't have high expectations. I didn't think that some name brand for about the same price would be significantly better, but in this case, yeah, that might be true.

However, in a nice compact package, you get a lantern that throws off 60 lumens, and has a built in battery pack. So all you need to do is keep this guy plugged in at home (or the RV) and then it'll be ready for duty when needed. It doubles as device charging point too with it's integrated USB port. Hell, this thing even has a solar panel on top for charging.

There isn't much else to say about this device when it comes to the features, so let's talk about the shortcomings.

  1. It has no brand. While there is a "3 year warranty" I have no clue if this seller will continue to be around in that time or honor the warranty.
  2. It feels cheap. I don't even know how to explain it, but the feel is cheapo.
  3. AAA battery backup, but it runs off an internal battery. I don't know how quality this batter is, and it could have poor performance over time. If that's the case, then you'll run headlong into that 3 year warranty.

Even with those things in mind, I still think this lantern is worth the money. In fact, I think it would be perfect for a kids tent or if you need multiple lanterns. Definitely not ever going to make it into the rotation as my go to lantern for my camping trips.
