Coleman Tent Kit

Camping usually isn't so simple as just buying a tent and throwing it on the ground. Sure, you can do it, but for only a few extra dollars here and there, you can dramatically improve your experience. This kit is mainly geared towards those people who haven't camped much and lack a lot of the extra equipment. One way I've improved camping experience is through using high quality tent stakes along with a couple other tools which make camping life better. Standard tent stakes that you get with your tent typically lack the ability to stay in the ground well. It's like when you buy a new car and you get those lackluster OEM tires that they just use to get the car off the lot. Fortunately it's pretty easy to upgrade your stakes and there are plenty to choose from. Now this Coleman Tent Kit only comes with four, but that's all I use for the most part -one for each corner. I usually also put one on each side, but in that case I just use the standard tent stakes since the corners are the most important part to tie down.

Also in this kit you get a few other items that are worth keeping around. The rubber mallet is great for popping the tent stakes into the ground, though if you already have a hatchet or hammer on hand, then this is kind of unnecessary. What is really helpful though, and probably one of the best pieces of equipment to keep around is the tent stake puller. I like to jam my stakes into the ground as far as possible (who doesn't) and the puller will help you get them out of the ground by using the hole to grab and gain leverage. Previous to owning a stake pulling tool, I had to use my hatchet...which is more than a pain. The last piece in the kit is the hand broom and dust pan. When camping, you will track in dirt/sand/junk and it's nice to be able to clean stuff up so you have a nice sleeping area --my preference. I have a few friends that could care less.

Coleman Tent Kit

As I mentioned at the outset, the Coleman Tent Kit is more for the beginning camper than for the veteran, but that doesn't mean the tools aren't useful. I'd consider this a great gift for someone getting into the great outdoors. Overall the quality is pretty good, though not exceptional, but that is what I've come to expect from Coleman. They make solid products, and you can spend more money, but in this case, I think they have the price just right for what you get.
